Music Box’s Alternative Christmas Double Feature 2011!

Sunday 18 - Thursday 22 December

Don’t like Bing Crosby or Jimmy Stewart? Then this alternative Christmas spectacular is for you! See Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Edward Scissorhands as part of an alternative Holiday Double Feature like none other!

For 28 years the Music Box Theatre has been the Chicago home for White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life, but for the second year in a row, we present an amazing Alternative Christmas Double Feature. Why? Because not everybody loves singing. Why? Because sometimes you need something other than Danny Kaye dancing and Jimmy Stewart stopping another poor woman from turning into a librarian. Why? Because most of us at the Music Box are still a little jaded that we never got that remote control car for Christmas 1987.

Complete with awesome short films and cartoons before Santa Conquers the Martians! You’ll see vintage “Greetings From The Theater Management” ads from the 1950’s and 1960’s, two classic Max Fleischer Technicolor cartoons (‘Christmas Comes But Once A Year’ and “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’), wacky 1950’s shorts like “Howdy Doody’s Christmas’, a terrific bouncing ball animated sing-a-long to “Jingle Bells” and much, much more.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

The Martians are irked that their children spend so much time watching TV shows from Earth that sing the praises of Santa Claus, so they decide to make a trek to the planet to capture Mr. Claus. During their mission, they also abduct two children who lead the aliens to the North Pole and Santa. The Martians take all three earthlings back to Mars, where, with the help of a native, they manage to spread Christmas cheer throughout the red planet.
