Something in the Air
A film by Olivier Assayas
Starring Clément Métayer, Lola Créton, Felix Armand
Director Olivier Assayas’ most recent film, Something in the Air, is a beautifully crafted and semi-autobiographical reflection on adolescent life in the early seventies in France.
High school student Gilles is bursting with revolutionary spirit, but after an especially violent clash with the police, Gilles, his girlfriend Christine and a few others escape to Italy for the summer.
While the setting is idyllic and peaceful, a rift begins to form amongst the friends and Gilles struggles to find a balance between his dedication to their radical beliefs and his desire to be an artist and filmmaker.
Detailed, muted and dreamy, Something in the Air is Assayas at his best.
