The Hole
A film by Joe Dante
Starring Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett, Nathan Gamble, and Teri Polo
A pair of brothers stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that leads to the darkest corridors of their fears and nightmares.
Directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins), The Hole is the story of two boys, Dane and Lucas, and their mother Susan, who move to a small town from New York City. In the basement of their new house, they discover a locked hatch leading to a bottomless hole. They, along with their neighbor Julie, explore it until evil is unleashed. To put and end to the hole, they will have to face their nightmares as their darkest fears come to life.
It’s the kind of knockabout, kid’s-eye-view comedy-horror that hasn’t been made for a while, with some nasty, frightening touches, but expertly encased in a distinctive family-movie aesthetic.
