3rd Annual Chicago French Film Festival
Friday, July 26th – Thursday, August 1st, 2013
The third annual Chicago French Film Festival is officially scheduled for July 26-August 1 this year! With an entire week dedicated to the festival, the Music Box will have the opportunity to program more titles, add additional screenings and present even more of the very best contemporary French film as well as some newly restored classics.
Among this year’s selections are The Dandelions directed by Carine Tardieu, an alternatively sweet and bittersweet family drama; and 11.6, a French heist film based on a true story, directed by Philippe Godeau and starring Francois Cluzet (Intouchables, Tell No One).
In addition, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty, or Treaty of Friendship, which ushered in a new era of cultural and diplomatic relations between France and Germany. In honor of this historic agreement, we will also be working with the Goethe Institut to present a special screening of Wim Wender’s Wings of Desire (1987), a film that we think perfectly embodies the Elysee Treaty. With a German director, Wenders, and a French actress, Solveig Dommartin, this modern classic is a stunning and powerful film that beautifully illustrates the spirit of artistic cooperation between the two countries.
The Chicago French Film Festival would not be possible were it not for our friends at the Consulate General of France in Chicago; their support is and has been absolutely vital in creating and producing this festival and we are looking forward to working with them again this year.
Be sure to check the Music Box Theatre website regularly for updates and the full schedule. You can also sign up for email updates at http://chicagofrenchfilmfestival.com. The 3rd Annual Chicago French Film Festival promises to be the most comprehensive, diverse and exciting yet!
