Chris Smith and Lloyd Kaufman in person! |
This weekend we welcome two truly independent, and very different, filmmakers to the Music Box.
Chris Smith will be here on Friday to present his latest, “Collapse,” a film as riveting as his “American Movie” was hilarious. To quote Roger Ebert’s recent Tweet, “Above all else, see ‘Collapse.’ Above all else.”
Then on Friday and Saturday at midnight, maverick indie fimmaker Lloyd Kaufman, founder of Troma Entertainment, will present his film “Poultrygeist,” cinema’s first chicken-zombie horror-comedy musical.
And be sure to check out the dazzling new print of one of Martin Scorsese’s favorite films, “The Red Shoes.” It will be an experience you won’t soon forget.
Hope to see you soon,
Brian

“GRADE: A! Mesmerizing. I left the theater shaken.” –Scott Tobias, Onion AV Club
“4 STARS! Above all else, see "Collapse"!” –Roger Ebert on Twitter
A former Los Angeles police officer turned independent reporter, Michael Ruppert predicted the current financial crisis at a time when most Wall Street analysts were still in denial. In this new film from Chris Smith, Ruppert recounts his career as a radical thinker and spells out the crises he sees ahead. He portrays a future that resembles apocalyptic science fiction. Listening to his rapid flow of opinions, the viewer is likely to question some of the rhetoric as paranoid or deluded; and to sway back and forth on what to make of the extremism. Smith lets viewers form their own judgments.

La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet
“One of the finest dance films ever made. A feast for ballet lovers. Sumptuous in its length and graceful in its rhythm. Transfixes you with the inner workings of an institution.
” –A.O. Scott, The New York Times
