Happy Holidays from the Music Box! |
Hey Everyone,
This year’s Christmas Show was the most attended show in recent years. From all of us at the Music Box, thank you for coming out in the sleet and sharing the holiday season with us.
If you’re looking for something special to do this week, might we suggest taking a holiday with Mr. Hulot? Roger Ebert calls MR HULOT’S HOLIDAY “a comedy of memory, nostalgia, fondness and good cheer.” We think it is the perfect film for this festive time of year!
Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday and New Year, we hope to see you at the movies soon.
Your friends at the Music Box

Mr. Hulot’s Holiday
“4 STARS...Miraculous! A comedy of memory, nostalgia, fondness and good cheer.” –Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
“4 STARS! It is a film attuned to the rhythms of a seaside vacation, and because you are here in Chicago, in December, can you think of a better time to see a restored print of Jacques Tati's 1953 classic?” –Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
New 35mm Restoration!
While on holiday at a seaside resort, Monsieur Hulot – Jacques Tati’s endearing, pipe-smoking clown – finds his presence provoking one catastrophe after another. A wildly funny satire of vacationers determined to enjoy themselves, the first entry in the Hulot series includes a series of brilliantly choreographed sight gags about boats, dogs, tennis, and other hazards of leisure. Janus Films is proud to present this masterpiece of gentle slapstick in a new restoration.

Police, Adjective
“4 STARS! A brilliant black comedy!” –Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
“More evidence of the remarkable recent renaissance in Romanian cinema.” –Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
Cristi is a policeman who refuses to arrest a young man who offers hash to two of his school mates, an offense punishable by current law. Cristi believes that the law will change soon, and he does not want the life of this young man to be a burden on his conscience. For his superior the word conscience has an entirely different meaning…

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans
“No one is better at this kind of performance than Nicolas Cage. He's a fearless actor.” –Roger Ebert, ??Chicago Sun-Times??
“The marvel of Cage's performance is that, somehow, it's all of a piece. That's the marvel of the movie, too. This is one fever dream you'll remember whole.” –Peter Rainer, ??Christian Science Monitor??
Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs — while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he reigns over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon.
