“A film whose sense of urgency and purpose is utterly engrossing.”
Village Voice

Each story and photograph is a window into global animal industries: Food, Fashion, Entertainment, and Research. As part of an epic photo project called We Animals, McArthur has documented the lives of animals around the world with heartbreaking empathic vividness.

The Ghosts in Our Machine charts McArthur’s efforts to bring wider attention to a topic that most of humankind strives hard to avoid. Are non-human animals property to be owned and used, or are they sentient beings deserving of rights?

A con man, along with his seductive British partner, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

Scrooge and Marley

A film by Richard Knight, Jr. and Peter Neville starring David Pevsner, Tim Kazurinsky, Rusty Schwimmer, Bruce Vilanch, Megan Cavanagh, Richard Ganoung, David Moretti, Ronnie Kroell, JoJo Baby, Becca Kaufman, and Narrated by Judith Light

Scrooge & Marley is a heartfelt, modern-day, gay variation on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – a holiday movie for all of us.

Scrooge & Marley is a modern-day variation on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Recounted from a gay sensibility, this reimagining of the classic story delves into the background of Ben Scrooge, the rich skinflint who hates the holidays, distrusts love and makes life miserable for everyone in the gay community over which he presides from his base, a music cabaret named Screws. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge (David Pevsner) is visited by the ghost of his late business partner, Jacob Marley (Tim Kazurinsky), who wants to free him from his same bitter fate that awaits in purgatory. Scrooge is next visited by three ghosts – past, present and future – who endeavor to lead him back to love.

Returning to the 1970s days of his teen years by the saucy Ghost of Christmas Past (Ronnie Kroell), Scrooge bitterly recalls being kicked out of his home at the holidays for being gay, meeting the young rogue Jacob Marley, the fabulous disco impresario Fezziwig (Bruce Vilanch), and the luckless love of his life, Bill, whose love Scrooge eventually destroys in his pursuit of wealth. The jolly Ghost of Christmas Present (Megan Cavanagh) next whisks Scrooge on a joyous, music filled tour of current holiday sights, including a visit to a lively party hosted by Scrooge’s niece Freda (Rusty Schwimmer) and her expectant partner Mary. An eye-opening stop at the home of Scrooge’s long suffering assistant Bob Cratchit (David Moretti), who with his partner Drew is parent to five children including Tiny Tim, leads to the dreaded appearance of the Ghost of Christmas Future (JoJo Baby) whose vision of Scrooge’s terrible destiny leads to his belated redemption and a heartwarming and surprising concluding twist on Dickens’ tale.

Like the traditional, story driven holiday classics that inspired it, Scrooge & Marley is enacted with heart, comedy and music, and the magic of Dickens’ timeless tale comes alive from a fresh perspective that will appeal to audiences of every persuasion. Shot entirely in Chicago, the movie is based on an original script by Ellen Stoneking, Knight and Timothy Imse and is narrated by Tony award winner Judith Light (Ugly Betty, Saving Grace). It features original songs by Lisa McQueen and Knight, who directed along with Peter Neville. Tracy Baim (Hannah Free) and David Strzepek (Jamie & Jesse Are Not Together, Foodgasm) are the film’s producers.

The Visitor

A film by Michael J. Paradise starring Shelley Winters, Glenn Ford

Legendary Hollywood director/actor John Huston stars in phantasmagoric sci-fi/horror/action/??? hybrid The Visitor, about an intergalactic warrior battling alongside a cosmic Christ figure against a demonic eight-year-old girl and her pet hawk, as the fate of the universe hangs in the balance.

Director/Professional Body Builder Michael J. Paradise’s film stands as perhaps the most ambitious of all the European attempts at Hollywood cloning, taking its inspiration by artfully fusing The Omen, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Birds, Rosemary’s Baby, The Fury, and Star Wars alongside a baffling cast that includes Shelley Winters, Glenn Ford, Lance Henriksen, Franco Nero, and Sam Peckinpah(!!!).

Museum Hours

A film by Jem Cohen starring Mary Margaret O'Hara, Bobby Sommer, Ela Piplits

Vienna, winter. Johann, a guard at the grand Kunsthistorisches Art Museum encounters Anne, a foreign visitor called to Austria because of a medical emergency.

Never having been to Austria and with little money, Anne wanders the city in limbo, taking the museum as her refuge. Johann, initially wary, offers help, and they’re drawn into each other’s worlds. Their meetings spark an unexpected series of explorations – of their own lives and the life of the city, and of the way artworks can reflect and shape daily experience.

The museum is seen in the film not as an archaic institution housing historical artifacts, but as an enigmatic crossroads in which, through the artworks, a discussion takes place across time with vital implications in the contemporary world. While the “conversations” embodied in the museum’s collection revolve around nothing less than the matters that most concern us all: death, sex, history, theology, materialism, and so on; it’s through the regular lives of the guard and displaced visitor that these heady subjects are brought entirely down to earth and made manifest.
