Low Winter Sun

starring Mark Strong, Lennie James

Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge, and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred.

Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Filmed on location in Detroit, this gritty and provocative crime drama explores the city’s many contradictions, from its physical and spiritual decay to its survivors’ resilience.

Based on the award-winning 2006 British miniseries of the same name, Low Winter Sun stars Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Zero Dark Thirty) and co-stars Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Jericho, Snatch). Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Season 1 consists of 10, 1-hour episodes and premieres Summer 2013 on AMC.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure

A film by Tim Burton starring Paul Reubens, Elizabeth Daily, Mark Holton

Man-child Pee-Wee Herman owns an awesome bike that he loves with all his heart. But when he fails to make even a rudimentary attempt at bicycle theft prevention, Pee-Wee goes on a journey of discovery to find his bike and learn a lesson: that there is no basement in the Alamo! Tim Burton’s first feature, the film often veers wildly into Burton’s signature stylings, most notably during a nightmarish trip to the ER.

On Thursday, August 1st at 9:30pm, join us for a free sneak preview of the new film Cockneys Vs Zombies!

Cockneys vs Zombies

A film by MATTHIAS HOENE starring Harry Treadaway, Michelle Ryan, Alan Ford, Honor Blackman, Georgia King

COCKNEY: A native of the East End of London, born within hearing of the ringing of the Bow Bells
ZOMBIE: A supernatural power or spell that according to voodoo belief can enter into and reanimate a corpse

The Bow Bells Care Home is under threat and the McGuire’s – Andy, Terry, and Katy – need to find some way to keep their grandfather and his friends in the East End, where they belong. But, when you’re robbing a bank, zombie invasions makes things a lot harder. And let’s face it, they need all the help they can get when their bank-robbing experts turn out to be Mental Mickey and Davey Tuppance. As contractors to an East London building site unlock a 350-year old vault full of seriously hungry zombies, the East End has suddenly gone to hell and the Cockney way of life is under threat. Equipped with all the guns and ammo they can carry, it’s up to the gang to save the hostages, their grandfather, and East London from zombie Armageddon.

Crystal Fairy

A film by Sebastián Silva starring Michael Cera, Gaby Hoffmann, Agustín Silva

In this freewheeling comedy from the director of The Maid, Michael Cera stars as a shaggy, boorish young American traveling through Chile searching for a rare hallucinogen.

“??Crystal Fairy?? is an acid trip where the frequent bonhomie is doused by sobering introspection.”
–Jeremy Kay, The Guardian

Jamie (Cera) is a boorish, insensitive American twentysomething traveling in Chile, who somehow manages to create chaos at every turn. He and his friends are planning on taking a road trip north to experience a legendary shamanistic hallucinogen called the San Pedro cactus. In a fit of drunkenness at a wild party, Jamie invites an eccentric woman — a radical spirit named Crystal Fairy (Hoffmann) — to come along. What is meant to be a devil-may-care journey becomes a battle of wills as Jamie finds himself locking horns with his new traveling companion. But on a remote, pristine beach at the edge of the desert, the magic brew is finally imbibed, and the true adventure begins.

A film by Various starring Kelsy Abbott, Hannah Al Rashid, Fachry Albar

Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

The Grand Duel

A film by Giancarlo Santi starring Lee Van Cleef, Alberto Dentice, Jess Hahn

After their powerful father is brutally murdered, the Saxon Brothers hire a group of bounty hunters to bring suspected killer Philipp Wermeer to justice. But when grizzled Sheriff Clayton (Lee Van Cleef) saves the fugitive Philipp’s life, the two team up and set out to confront the Saxons and reveal the shocking truth about who really killed The Patriarch. Newly transferred from the original Italian negative and fully restored!
