Fill the Void

A film by Rama Burshtein starring Hila Feldman, Razia Israeli, Yiftach Klein

Fill the Void tells the story of a Hassidic family from Tel Aviv and their youngest daughter, Shira, who will have to choose between her heart’s wish and her family duty.

“Unfolds in unhurried dramatic terms that come to take on an almost fatalistic force.”
–Andrew Schenker, Slant Magazine

Fill the Void tells the story of a Hassidic family from Tel Aviv. Shira, the youngest daughter, is about to be married off to a promising young man of the same age and background. It’s her dream-come-true, and Shira feels ready and excited, until her sister, Esther, dies unexpectedly during childbirth. The pain and grief that overwhelm the family postpone Shira’s marriage.

Everything changes when an offer is made to match Yochay — the late Esther‘s husband — to a widow from Belgium. Though Yochay feels it is too soon, he realizes he must eventually marry again, but when the girls’ mother discovers that Yochay may leave the country with her only grandchild, she proposes a match between her daughter and her former son-in-law that forces Shira to choose between her heart’s wish and her family duty.

The Source Family

A film by Maria Demopoulos, Jodi Wille

The Source Family was a radical experiment in ’70s utopian living. Their outlandish style, popular health food restaurant, rock band, and beautiful women made them the darlings of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip; but their outsider ideals and the unconventional behavior of their spiritual leader, Father Yod, caused controversy with local authorities.

“One of the most detailed looks at the inner workings of an American cult ever assembled.”
–Ian Buckwalter

They fled to Hawaii, leading to their dramatic demise. Years later, former family members surface and the rock band reforms, revealing how their time with Father Yod shaped their lives in the most unexpected ways. THE SOURCE FAMILY provides an intimate, insiders’ view at this incredible group of people through their own archival photos, home movies, audio recordings, and contemporary interviews with members of the family.

These personal accounts, along with interviews with outsiders, make up the interviews in the film. However, the story is largely cinematic, expressed through the use of the group’s extensive film and audio archive maintained by Isis Aquarian, one of Father’s wives, Family documentarian, and a central character in the documentary (as well as being associate producer).

The film’s soundtrack is composed entirely of original Source Family music produced from 1971-1975.

Escape from New York

A film by John Carpenter starring Kurt Russell, Isaac Hayes, Donald Pleasence

It’s 1997. New York City is a maximum-security prison. Bridges are mined. Rivers are patrolled. The rules are simple: once you go in, you don’t come out.

When Air Force One crash-lands downtown, and the President (Donald Pleasence) is taken hostage by the nefarious “A-Number One!” gang lord The Duke (Isaac Hayes), it falls on Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), one particularly nasty ex-Special Forces and convicted Fed bank robber, to powerglide into Manhattan and get the leader of the free world freed from danger.

Ernest Borgnine, Lee Van Cleef, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau and Season Hubley round out the cast of fugitives out to either assist or assault Snake on his mission.

National Theatre Live presents This House

Biting and energetic, This House has enjoyed two National Theatre sell-out runs.

James Graham’s biting, energetic and critically-acclaimed new play strips politics down to the practical realities of those behind the scenes who roll up their sleeves, and on occasion bend the rules, to maneuver a diverse and conflicting chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments.

This House

A film by Jeremy Herrin starring Charlie Buckland, Phil Daniels

National Theatre Live is an exciting initiative to broadcast live performances of the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world.

“Funny, touching, and cliff-hangingly suspenseful.”
The Telegraph

It’s 1974 and the corridors of Westminster ring with the sound of infighting and backbiting as Britain’s political parties battle to change the future of the nation, whatever it takes. In this hung parliament, the ruling party holds on by a thread. Votes are won and lost by one, fist fights erupt in the bars, and ill MPs are hauled in to cast their votes. It’s a time when a staggering number of politicians die, and age-old traditions and allegiances are thrown aside in the struggle for power.
