Join Tribune critic Chris Jones and Harvey Firestein in front of the Music Box Theatre’s red curtain for this one night event!
“Kinky Boots” just kicked off in Chicago and the show’s author, Harvey Fierstein (also author of “Torch Song Trilogy,” “La Cage Aux Folles” and “Newsies” and an actor in Woody Allen’s “Bullets Over Broadway” and many other movies), talks with Tribune critic Chris Jones about his life and work and his longtime support for gay civil rights.
Trib Nation events are a centerpiece of how we talk with you about current events and ideas that matter to Chicago. We hope to see you at newsroom events to share what we’ve learned and to hear what’s on your mind.
Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce the pre-Broadway world premiere of KINKY BOOTS, a brand new musical that brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® and Emmy Award-winner Cyndi Lauper (Music & Lyrics), directed and choreographed by Tony® Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, which will play the Bank of America Theatre (18 West Monroe Street) beginning Oct. 2 through Nov. 4, 2012.
In KINKY BOOTS, Charlie Price is forced to step in and save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England, following the sudden death of his father. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, a fabulous drag performer named Lola. Together, this improbable duo revitalizes the failing business, while stepping out from their fathers’ shadows and transforming an entire community through the power of acceptance.
Cyndi Lauper’s newest single “Sex is in the Heel,” is a remixed selection from KINKY BOOTS. The track is available for free download at www.KinkyBootstheMusical.com .
