Hey Music Boxers,

We have a bunch of special events coming up that we’re excited about, and we wanted to let you know about them! There’s quite a variety, so take a look and see if anything interests you.

This Saturday at midnight, it’s Sing-A-Long Xanadu. Belt out the music of Electric Light Orchestra with Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Sing-Along Xanadu promises a tacky, hilarious extravaganza filled with roller skating, neon, spandex, and lots and lots of glitter. Hosted by Dick O’Day and the Camp Midnight Players! Tickets on sale now.

On Saturday, November 10th at midnight, it’s the madcap comedy Clue. Tim Curry’s other cult classic returns to the Music Box for the first time in five years with a live shadowcast, courtesy of Midnight Madness (the same people who bring you the excellent Rocky Horror Picture Show shadowcast). Tickets on sale now.

More midnight fun happens on November 16th and 17th with R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet Sing-A-Long. Subtitles on screen to make it easy to sing-along (or just keep up with the story if you’ve never seen this majesty before), and props like rubbers, spatulas and more to help make the magic moments on screen come alive in the theater. Tickets on sale now.

Then, November 23rd-25th, the weekend after Thanksgiving, it’s time for Sing-A-Long Sound of Music. This Music Box tradition is presented complete with prop bags, a pre-show costume contest, and of course, the beloved film starring Julie Andrews. Tickets on sale now.

And finally, tickets are on sale for the 29th Annual Music Box Christmas Show, featuring screenings of It’s A Wonderful Life and White Christmas, as well as carolers, We have more shows than ever before, so join us and the thousands of others who have made us part of their holiday celebration.

See you at the movies!

Xanadu

A film by Robert Greenwald starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly and Michael Beck

This romantic musical fantasy film is the story of Sonny Malone and the search for his muse. After running into a roller-skating woman named Kira (Olivia Newton-John), Sonny becomes obsessed with finding her again. He is lead to an abandoned auditorium, where he finds Kira again. Literally a Greek muse, she unites him with Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), a man who was similarly inspired by Kira 40 years ago. They team up to build the world’s greatest roller disco rink.

Clue

A film by Jonathan Lynn

Six strangers are invited to a party in a secluded New England mansion. They are met by the house butler, Wadsworth (Tim Curry), who reveals the true nature of the party: all of the guests are being blackmailed to hide their secrets. The popular board game of the 80s gets the all-star treatment in this comic caper set in a Victorian mansion, based on a story by John Landis. Whodunit?

Trapped in the Closet

A film by R. Kelly and Jim Swaffield starring R. Kelly, Cat Wilson, and Rolando Boyce

“So I pulled out my beretta…”

In R. Kelly’s classic hip hopera, Kels takes on the role of Sylvester, who has a simple one-night stand with a preacher’s wife and then ends up in a web of preposterous lies and a series of outlandish plot twists ranging from used rubbers on his bed to an asthmatic midget male stripper who likes to hang out with a white chick named Bridget. Throughout all of these misadventures, the drama is played as fiercely straight as R. Kelly, and the tale is told through rhyme after rhyme after rhyme. And y’all get to singalong to line after line after line.

A story about love, music, joy, and fighting for what is right, The Sound of Music is a film for all ages.

The lyrics will appear on screen for anyone who doesn’t know all the words to “The Sound of Music,” “Do-Re-Me,” and of course, “My Favorite Things.”
