“People will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.”

Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), a novice Iowa farmer, is guided through an implausible journey through time, spirituality, sport, culture, and lineage by an omniscient voice calling to him in his cornfield. With the support of his wife and daughter (the former played by the great Amy Madigan), Ray is called on to build a baseball diamond and then, only when finished, will he find out why.

Once the field is livened by legendary early-professional baseball players like “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Field of Dreams becomes at once an homage to America’s pastime and a call to follow your intuition. Featuring an all-star cast including Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, a young Gaby Hoffman in her film debut, and Burt Lancaster in the final film of his career, Field of Dreams has long been cemented in place as an American baseball classic (even among Kostner’s four other baseball films). Come for the love of the game and stay for one of cinema's great reverences for the grandeur of the evening Midwestern sun. (CRC)
