The metronomic pacing, the impossibly vivid sound design (so muscular that it functions as a pervasive ambient score), the indelible atmosphere, the austerity...the violence! Everything is perfectly judged. Including one of the greatest casts ever assembled. Even that Carter Burwell end credits cue is better than anything!
