70mm is frequently a format of “er’s”: bigger, brighter, crisper, sharper, wider, heavier, costlier, louder. These terms are often used to compare the format to its digital counterparts and smaller (but not lesser) film formats, but can fail to convey what actually makes the format special: 70mm’s ability to bring out the texture and weight of small details, its natural propensity for spectacle, and its magnetic ability to bring audiences together and hold them in suspense. 

For this iteration of our 70mm festival, we’re thrilled to bring back the Ultra Panavision 70 format to present IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD and Ryan Coogler’s incredible new film SINNERS. Universal recently unearthed an original 70mm blowup print of BACKDRAFT, and Disney has graciously allowed us to screen their archival prints of CLEOPATRA and SLEEPING BEAUTY. Perennial favorites 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA both return this year, alongside Christopher Nolan’s DUNKIRK, screening here for the first time since its original release.
